Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 11/1/01

I
remember going to the fair when I was younger, not to the
mediaeval fairs but the ones in the 50's. One year I won 12
small ducks and took them home to raise. They grew to be big
ducks and laid eggs all over the place. But the fun of the
county fair was nothing to the joy of winning in
the STATE
FAIR.
Someone said,
"I came, I
saw, and I conquered"
And
now I know that feeling. Well, we conquered a bit
anyway
Here is what we won:
A Bronze
Medal for Golden
Muscadine
A Bronze Medal for Campbell
Early
A Bronze Medal for Blackberry
A Silver Medal
for Southern
Rosé
A Silver Medal for Strawberry
A Gold Medal
for Peach
A Gold Medal for Sherry
A Gold Medal for Niagara
A Gold Medal for Katherine's
Delight
A Gold Medal for Robert's
Port
Best of Show for
Robert's Port
It
is a great feeling when half
of your winning wines are Gold Medals. And this being
the first time that the State Fair has had a wine
competition just added to the joy.
I
know that wine competitions are like football games. When
you have quality players, it is only a question of who has
done the best job this vintage. All the wine makers who
entered are a class act, and to do well against them is
great. So I will spend some time enjoying the win and
enjoying the wine.
Here is to the Judges,
Creative Arts Director - Debbie Moreland, the Arkansas State
Fair, and the Wine Makers of
Arkansas.
I drink a toast to you
