Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 5/01/06

The
Kentucky boys have hit again ! ! !
Yes for
the second time we have been hit by the boys from Kentucky
and we are poorer by a gold coin and they is richer by a
gold coin. And then they tell me how fair the competition
was.
Yes, it is true
Jim Wight of Kentucky won the
gold medal just like his brother-in-law; Raymond Meyer did a
few years ago. And in truth, he won it fair and square. So
our hats are off to Jim and his fine wine.
There was much fun and fellowship at the competition this
year. Many new faces and more wines entered (277), which is
a steady growth for the last several years. It rained after
the pot luck on Friday night and before the awards on
Saturday. The people are becoming a family and visit each
other between competitions. I wish to thank everyone who
helped in any way with this competition. The competition is
a good event because of the people who enter. The quality of
wines are very good. So if you did not enter, and you missed
your chance to win the real gold coin
start planning
for next year and plan on entering your wines. Talking about
doing something is not the same thing as doing something.
You have to put your life in gear and move
That is how
things are done, by action - not thinking.
Now on another subject, do you have your grapes sprayed? Are
you following a plan to spray and observe you grapes? It is
far better to stop a small problem before it grows to a
major problem. The best way to observe the grapes is to walk
the vineyard.
You have to know what is going on in your vineyard, just as
you have to know what is going on in your wine.
Now let us
raise our glass to Jim Wight, a fine
winemaker.
