Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 05/1/04

The joy of
Winning, the sorrow of Losing...
both
may be handled with a glass of wine. I have been on both
sides of this fence, and I tell you for sure, a bit of wine
can not hurt.
What a grand
competition it was this year. A total of 255 entries going
for the "Gold". And Bonnie Bradfield of Glen Rock, PA was
the winner of the Best of Show. The judging was held at the
winery this year with eight judges from across the state
chaired by Dr. Justin Morris of the University of Arkansas.
After the competition, Dr. Morris told me that it was a
tough job judging because of the number of fine wines. We
had a cookout for the judges after their long day of tasting
wine. The large number of helpers with the judging also
enjoyed the cookout, and every thing ran like a
top.
The Pot Luck for
the friends and people out of town was attended by about 75
good wine lovers. There was much food, wine and fellowship.
A lot of old friends and some new ones enjoyed the event.
Then on Saturday, at High Noon, there was the seminar by
Marv Hietpas of Wisconsin, followed by the announcement of
the winners, all 177 of them, and then the fun began. All
the wines were out to be tasted and enjoyed by the crowd on
hand.
It was nice to see
some of the wine makers sharing ideas with other interested
persons. This is the idea of the event, one of sharing and
fellowship. All the good time will be long remembered by
those who attended.
NOW, There
is some business to speak of
.have you started your
spray program yet? It is important that you develop and
operate a good spray program
if you wish to have
quality grapes to make your quality wine. There has been a
lot of rain in Arkansas, so for us it is important to work
our spray program. If you have a question, e mail
me.
Now, it is time
for a bit of wine
would you share a glass ? ?
