Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 03/1/04

History is
neat, and like wine it can be
enjoyable.
However, it is important that we discover the history that
is of interest to us, and maybe our families. Like wine, we
pick what we enjoy in life. If someone or something is not
enjoyable to us, we leave it for others to discover. The
wines we do not enjoy we leave for others to purchase. So
what is the point of these notes??? You
ask???
Well, each
of us have a history, and it would be well for us to search
our history in relationship to wine. If we are wine lovers
or lovers of wine
then we need to find the
relationship of wine to us and our family. Did your
grandparents make wine? If so what kind of wine was made,
sweet or dry? How did they make the wine, and is there any
items of the process left in some old cellar? What types of
wine did they make, grape or berry? How did you become
interested in wine? Are there any stories of winemaking in
your family history? How did your relatives feel about wine
and drinking? Did some of your relatives enjoy drinking too
much? Did religion play a part in how you feel about wine
and drinking? Do any of your relatives or friends still make
wine? What is the oldest bottle of wine that you own. At
what age did you start to enjoy wine? What is your history
in wine, and what is wine in your history. How many bottles
of wine do you own? How many wineries have you visited?
As you see, the questions are endless, and the answers could
fill a notebook. So there
We have arrived. The
point is for you to enjoy a glass of wine and write down in
a journal your wine history. This history is important,
because it is your history..and you are important.
There is a love affair in wine. And you will find it when
you discover your history and wine. So go pour a glass of
wine, grab a notebook and a pen
