Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 6/01/06

In Praise
of the American Wine
Society…Everyone
wants to be knowledgeable about wine. Some are truly
knowledgeable, and some think that they know far more than
they really understand. Just because one drinks a good bit
of wine, does not make them an authority on the matter. I
find people coming into the winery with many ideas that are
just off the wall. This proves that a little bit of
knowledge is not a good thing. But there are ways to be
educated about wine and the enjoyment of a glass of
wine.
We have in this state of Arkansas, an organization called
"Arkansas Chapter of the American Wine
Society". This organization is dedicated to
spreading the correct knowledge of wine and the enjoyment
thereof. This chapter of a national organization is backed
by national leadership, and is dedicated to understanding
and enjoying wine. At present, the chapter has members from
all across Arkansas. The people who belong to the
organization come from all walks of life and are bound
together by their love of wine. Now, this leads us into the
next step of these notes, which is where all of this is
leading…You, yes you, should consider joining this
organization. If you live in Arkansas, you can join our
chapter, if another state, you can join a chapter in that
state. You will receive the magazine, be able to talk part
in wine tasting, go to the convention, enter the wine
competition, learn how to judge wines in competition, and
many other fun things.
Our chapter meets four times a year in different parts of
the state. The meeting offers a wine tasting and light food
with a lot of fellowship and goodwill. If you are interested
in maybe joining, please contact our Secretary/Treasurer,
Ms. Mary Jane Cains at 479-468-2888. She will be happy to
send you a form to become a member.
Now, let us think about this…did you want
a glass of red or white??? Or should I bring up a bottle of
each? To us, and the officers and members of the Arkansas
Chapter of the American Wine
