Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 7/01/05

"Lets go
and spot some elderberries
"
words
that take me back to a time long ago. Fifty years to be
correct. For you see, I was fifteen when I made my first
wine. And the wine was Elderberry. So you see I will be
going out to pick elderberries in a few weeks, but first you
have to spot where they are growing.
Time flies if you are having fun or not. So the truth of the
matter is to have fun and enjoy life and the people you have
in your life, and the things that you have in your
life..WINE! I can remember walking the railroad tracks
looking for the large white clumps of blooms of the elder
flower. When the winery entered its 30th year of being, I
received a card from my second oldest son. He wrote in the
card, "Who would have ever thought a teenage hobby would get
so out of control". Ah me!! And I thought that was great
information in a card.
We all have a history of interest in wine. We may have
gained this interest on our own, or we could have received
it from a friend
makes no difference as long as there
is an interest. It is important that we take time to
remember and enjoy the past. Most of us would only change a
few things in our life. The way and history of becoming a
winemaker is an important tool to enjoying life. Good wine
and good friends are a treasure and need to be kept safe
less we lose or misplace them.
SO, take the time to enjoy your history into
winemaking
for me it is now 50 years. How long is it
for you? How did you start? What was the first wine you
make?
And how did it taste? How much wine did you make in the
first vintage? Did others like your work?
NOW, you have started to take the time and energy to
enjoy your past relationship with wine. Write it down and
pass it down to kids, friends, and fellow winemakers.
And while you are writing, I shall go and get us a glass of
wine
You like dry red, correct
and now To
Us.
