Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 1/01/07

Here we are at the end and at the beginning…So my friend, is your glass half empty, or is it half full. Only you can tell for no other person can stand in your shoes and see what you see, knowing what you know, and understand as you understand.
So rejoice in the year that is ending, and praise GOD for the one that is starting. Many winemakers, as do I, live for the next vintage…to improve, and enjoy the labor of human hands and the spirit of the challenge.
It is that time to take stock in the wines and process of making them that was the year of 2006. To go over areas where problems arose and things went arye. What could we have done better to improve the quality of the wine? It is important to note these areas so that in 2007 the same error does not occur. Likewise it is important to note the areas where we did a very good job in winemaking. You must have a complete picture of the good and the bad so that you will improve with the next vintage.
This process of grading yourself should take place over several days as you judge your own wines. You want to be the first to find the good and the bad in your wines. You have to judge in honesty and fairness…to thyself be true ! ! !
Now it is time for a few questions: 1. How are things looking in the vineyard? Are you on schedule with the pruning and tying? 2. All the wines of 2006 topped off and covered with gas? 3. Has all the equipment been repaired and stored for next crush?
4. How clean are the wines? 5. When is the last time you tasted the wines?
I believe that I could enjoy a glass of wine or two…You will join me will you not?
Drinking with friends is so enjoyable. To us ! ! !
