Notes From the Vintner

Welcome to our column. We hope that you will return to learn interesting notes on wine, and related subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body and lighten the soul. 2/01/07

The joy of making wine and drinking wine is an important part of life for a happy person. For all winemakers are happy people…most of the time. It is important that one shares his wine with friends, and enjoy good times together. Wine gives merry to the heart, and is the food of fellowship.

Now I can speak from first hand knowledge. A couple nights ago I receive a shipment of juice to turn into wine. Now there was a fair amount of juice to be pumped into the tanks in the cellar and the tanks in the cooler. The weather was very cold for Arkansas, and the snow had the landscape painted white. The truck had arrived in the late afternoon, and it was time to start pumping. The tanks were ready to receive the load, and all was set to start pumping. Then it started, snow, snow, and more snow,,,

Along with the snow, came wind and very cold weather. We did not have time to enjoy the snow for it was time to move the juice before total darkness. So the pump came to life just as the large snow flakes started to fall. It did not take long for the cold weather to be felt in the bones. So after a few minutes, John went after the butane heater to keep all of us warm.

Now, everyone knows that when you pump a tank it takes a bit of wine to help things go as you plan. So now you have the picture….The weather is very cold, and the snow is coming down. The juice is being pumped and the people working the project are drinking wine and standing out by the heater in the snow by the trailer full of juice.

Now only a professional would have the knowledge to take a picture of this. (John took this picture...)

So as not to leave you up in the air about this story…It did happen, and several people had a very special evening of fellowship, jokes, and wine.

I think I know where they left the bottle…Shall you join me in a glass.
