Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 2/01/06

April is
coming soon…
and it will be time to enter the wine competition and enjoy
a fun weekend with friends and fellow wine makers. You do
not have that much time to get you wine ready and send in
for the competition. Remember that the two bottles of wine
must be at the winery by midnight April 8, 2006. An ounce of
GOLD
is a very good prize as the price has gone up to over
$550.00.
You should plan on attending both events, the free pot luck
on Friday, and the awards and tasting on Saturday. The
number of persons attend these events has increased each
year, with many returning year after year. It is wonderful
fellowship and a chance to meet new friends while tasting
fine wines. You may bring a friend or friends to these
events, as they are for the promotions of wine and everyone
is welcome.
If you have your wines ready to send, they can be sent any
time, or you can drop them off at the winery. We have
already received wines for this year's competition. The
forms will be mailed our shortly, but you can always email
me for a form. Remember to pack your wines well before you
ship them to us. It is helpful to mark the boxes "samples
for testing" and tell them it is grape juice. Both
statements are true.
I have found a person who is interested in supplying grapes
to home wine makers. If you are interested in Arkansas
grapes email me and I will send you the information of how
to contact this person.
Wine is like a friend, you need to check on it often and
know how it is doing. If there is a problem, correct it
before the wine and or friendship is beyond saving. Many
times we set the wine back to age and never check on it for
months. But this is a very bad idea. Taste it and test it
often, know that it is doing well.
And with that note, I believe that it is time to share a
glass…You pick and I shall pour. To
us and all the wine lovers in the world ! !
