Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 12/01/05

The year is
ending, and I have so much to do yet ! ! !
It is
so easy to get covered up in work and projects. I still have
much to do on my projects, but made time to start a couple
more this week
..before the end of the year. And this
was done without the aid of drink or lack of reason. It is
best for one to have a passion for life, and the living of
this life. I have several passions, and one is to live life
and receive joy, happiness and peace from doing so.
It is time to work the vineyard. The vineyard may rest for a
few months, but you, yes you my friend, must get the vines
pruned, wires tightened, posts replaced, and the soil set.
You should have a cover crop already coming up between the
rows. This is the time to check the vines for any damage or
disease. It is best to pick a cold, sunny day to work in the
vineyard. Remember that you need to start now, because the
number of good sunny days is numbered in the winter. Be sure
to burn all the pruned vines. Some people just leave them
stacked at the ends of the rows and allow them to rot, but
this practice can lead to areas of disease and animal
nesting.
At the feast of Christmas, it is proper to share with the
special people in your life some of your fine wines. You
should have several bottles ready to offer a guest their
glass of spirits. You can also make labels for some and give
them a whole bottle. In short, it is the season to share
love, happiness and peace.
So to you from me this Christmas of 2005, I offer a
glass in your honor.
May Our Good God bless and keep you in His
peace.
