Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 04/1/04

It is time to
send in the wines
It is
time to see how you have done. The 20th Cowie International
Amateur Wine Competition is at hand, and the real gold and
silver coins are ready to be given away. The panel of judges
is assembled from across the state, and is meeting at the
winery to judge on the 14th of the month. Therefore, you
must have your entry in by midnight, Friday April
9th.
The assistants are
lined up to help with the judging, so that everything runs
smooth. The judging is a big event, but it is not open to
the public. There are four teams of judges who will judge
the 22 classes of wines. Each class of wine will have
winners in First, Second, and Third place, and
one "Best of Class" who will receive real silver
coins. Then the overall best wine will be judged as "Best
of Show" and receive an ounce of gold. Last year there
were 140 winners out of 193 wines. So you need to
enter
.
The fun day for
the public begins on Friday evening at 6:00PM with a potluck
dinner and get together at the winery for the general
public. This is to allow people to visit and get to know
each other. At present there are several people planning to
attend from out of state.
On Saturday at
high noon, the program begins with a talk on wine making by
one of the wine makers. This is about a 20 minute
presentation. Follow this is the awarding of the prizes to
the winners. This in turn is followed by the tasting of the
wines. There will be lots of wine, cheese, and smacks, and
you may keep your glass.
So, you are
going to start making wine???? You say !!!! Well what
better time to get the ball rolling than by attending the
wine competition awards and tasting. You can meet wonderful
wine makers, and have a great afternoon learning how to make
wine. So plan on attending! ! ! ! We shall be waiting for
you with a glass and a sample of fine
wine.
