Notes From the
Vintner
|
Welcome
to our column. We hope that you will return to
learn interesting notes on wine, and related
subjects. Wine is a great gift from God to be used
for the enjoyment of man. It is a food, and should
be treated as such. It is meant to lift up the body
and lighten the soul. 06/1/01

What is the wine for you
tonight?
Wine needs to match the mood, and it also needs to enhance
the mood. Any wine will not do, unless you have had a real
bad day
then you should try a good single malt, and a
goodly amount of it to boot. Be selective in drinking wine.
You do not eat steak every night. Some times you may eat hot
dogs
likewise with wine.
Some times you are
in the mood for a fine table wine to go with a steak. Select
one that you like, not one that others tell you that you
should like. And, Lord forbid, if it is a white, then go for
it. Know what wines complement what foods but develop your
own palate. Be your own person, drink what you like
and enjoy. Buy the book on wine, read it, and then put it on
the shelf for all to see that you know what you are talking
about. But in the end, be true to yourself. There are some
times when a light pop wine with a screw cap is the wine for
the hour
enjoy it. Wines are like people; some are
classy, and some are not. But all may be enjoyed.
Remember that wine
is a gift and treat it as such
do not abuse it. Chose a
light wine for a glass when you reach home after work. Then
select a full-bodied wine to complement your dinner if the
dinner is a hearty meal. If it is a light snackish dinner,
go with a lighter wine. You may wish to have a glass before
bed; this should be a fruity wine to allow you to wander
into slumber as you savor the fruit.
But
Remember
some people can drink several glasses in
an evening or day, and others can not. Do not be the
glutton. When wine is being drunk, it is to be enjoyed. It
is not the amount of wine that you drink, but the amount of
wine that you can drink in joy and happiness. Abusing wine
has its own rewards!!! ENJOY a glass often
and
have a glass for me now and then, for I surely will for
you.
